Can i qualify for unemployment?

So im 18 worked at a grocery store for 6 months and i quit because i did not like the way i was getting treated, being made fun of getting cussed at by my managers i only made 5,000 dollars and it was my first job so do you think i can collect unemployment any information would help thanks now obviously i would not get a lot so how can i collect unemployment while looking for other jobs well this is hypthetic i didint quit yet but im planning to make a move to get unemployment so if my manger yells and makes fun of me calls me a jagoff all the time so but i have to work over 6 months to qualify?

In order to quit and remain eligible for unemployment benefits in the scenario that you describe, the workplace environment must be so hostile that a reasonable person would have no other option but to walk away from the job AFTER having taken all reasonable means to remedy the situation. A mean-spirited boss is not justification for quitting, in and of itself. There are plenty of bosses who are jerks and aholes; you just have to learn to deal with it. If the issue is your boss calling you a "lazy bum" or "jagoff" because he doesn't think you are hustling enough, it's just not going to fly. Proving a hostile work environment is difficult. Generally you need co-workers or customers on your side who are willing to testify for you. Needless to say, co-workers are going to be a tough sell as they put their jobs on the line by going to bat for you. When alleging a hostile workplace environment you really need a written daily diary of everything that happened, including the actions that you took to try to correct the matter. Exact dates and times, names, phone numbers, witnesses, etc. all are necessary to prove your case. It CAN be done, but it isn't easy. The other problem you're facing is time on the job and total earnings. As a general rule of thumb, you need at least 6 months worth of full-time employment at minimum wage over the prior 15 months to qualify for unemployment benefits. $5,000 over 6 months is going to pull up short in most states. At that earnings level you'll probably need 9 months of wages to qualify.

No. if you quit that's your fault. you should have applied elsewhere and given your notice and shake your manager's hand and thank them and smile. All while torturing/killing them in your mind.

No, you can't get unrmployment for two reasons. You didn't work long enough, and you quit.

You can't normally collect unemployment if you quit your job. You would have to apply, fill out an extensive questionnaire, and it would be looked into by the unemployment office. Did you ever report the harassment to the manager's boss? Those are the kind of questions they will ask. Imagine if they allowed people to quit their job and collect unemployment. Everyone would quit their job. You should have went higher than your manager, told them what was going on, and tried to fix the situation before quitting. Every job you get, you will find people like that. You just need to learn to deal with them in an appropriate way. You can't quit every time someone makes you mad.
