- The idea came to Charlie Munger (Berkshire's Vice Chairman) from Li Lu who is an investor. They then sent David Sokol (chairman of Berkshire's energy subsidiary) to China to visit BYD because Sokal has experience with battery technology and energy. They were so impressed with BYD and especially its chairman Wang Chuanfu, that they made the decision to invest.
Munger speaks very highly of Wang Chuanfu and his ability to get things done. Says he's a combination of Thomas Edison and Jack Welch. Munger says that BYDs work with batteries and capturing energy (largely solar) could make the world better place, and that BYDs future may be more so in the energy field than in the auto field.
You can listen to Munger by viewing interviews at Youtube etc.

- BYD has clear strategies to go on Hybrid car, they aimed to be the first and biggest player who seriousely doing it by using only half cost than others. so once the fuel price rise again then they will be one of the first choice in Chinese and emerging market.
