I got cut 2 work shifts because of this and am barely scheduled to work this week. I'm not really familiar with this because this is my first job. Can anyone give me the gist about payroll?
If a company is over on payroll hours, what does that mean?

I got cut 2 work shifts because of this and am barely scheduled to work this week. I'm not really familiar with this because this is my first job. Can anyone give me the gist about payroll?- What happens is that managers get 'in trouble' with their bosses if their payroll for thier department is too high compared to the amount of sales revenue generated. Corporate and many other bosses don't care about their people/employees really, regardless of how much they claim to care about them. No, it's all about numbers and the bottom line. ------------------------ Some companies really go overboard on this. In my case, it became ridiculous and I had to quit because of it. I WILL rant about this company. QFC (Quality Food Centers) run by Kroger. OK, well QFC bought out our large grocery store and remodeled the whole store. They put in a HUGE deli (my department). At first it was great. We had like 8 employees working together, and it was extremely busy. Over time, management 'decided' that they would make even more profit if they reduced the labor costs (which is a true statement). So, eventually they whittled it down to TWO employees working together on the day shift. And like I said, this was a HUGE deli and it was still EXTREMELY busy! I mean, there were days where I would look up and see 20 people waiting to be served. How exactly am I supposed to handle that? I would kind of (not really, but) throw up my hands and say to them "I have absolutely no idea who is next". I DID say that, more than once. After all, while I was busy making 4 sandwiches for one customer, I can't really take note of which of the next 20 customers had arrived first. Very stressful and I had to quit. I had worked there for 8 years. My manager had absolutely no problem whatsoever running the show like that. He got a FAT bonus. All he and the other bosses cared about was lining their pockets. And yes, even in that situation, my hours got reduced as well. I said CYA later. Have fun.
