My parents have about 6k coming back. I'm not sure what company they went through but for about a month and a half now they've been waiting to get their return. There's been a rude lady on the phone telling them that they will get it in 5-7 business days. Those days came and went. They spoke to her supervisor, who told them the week after or something. Still nothing. My step father put in a hardship which means they should be expediting the refund. They called back again and the lady hung up in their face, and supervisor is not returning their calls. Is there some higher power or something they can do? They want to put in a complaint. They really need the return soon, but it seems that they are holding the check for some reason. My stepfather has been told that everything is ok and they should be getting the check in the mail very soon, but that was a month ago they said that. Help! Is there anything they can do to light a fire up their 4$$ to just send the check out? pls help anyone!!!!

What they are expecting is a refund. There is no such thing as a "hardship" when filing a tax return so the expedited return is just a load of BS. Because your "question" is loaded with irrelevant junk, I have to make a few guesses as to what you really mean. It sounds like your parents filed their tax return and asked for a Refund Anticipation Loan (RAL). Otherwise it wouldn't matter what company they used. A RAL is a bad deal for everybody except the companies that offer them. Your parents should use the "Where's My Refund" tool on the IRS website https://sa1.www4.irs.gov/irfof/lang/en/irfofgetstatus.jsp If they can't use this link, then they can get to that part of the IRS site from the main page by clicking on the "Where's My Refund" button to the right of the page. If they don't trust the Internet, then they can call 1-800-829-4477. Either way, they will need to know the exact amount of refund requested, their filing status, and the primary Social Security Number (the one that is listed first) on the tax return. It sounds like there is a problem with your parents' tax return. It could be anything from a misspelled name to a request for a tax credit for which they aren't eligible. I hope this helps. Gary
- A $6000 refund can often mean the tax return claimed EIC and the Additional Child Tax Credit (or the new educational AOC credit). This adds up to a lot of money and frankly, a lot of fraud. If the tax return passes all edits, the refund can be issued roughly 3 weeks after the return is entered into the IRS system. "they will get it in 5-7 business days" from when? From when the filed? (Meaning a RAL.) Or from when the IRS employee thought they saw processing time on the IRS system? If the tax return flunks and edit or triggers a fraud check, the return is pulled from the system until someone can look at it. If your stepfather was paid with W-2s, the IRS sometimes wanted to verify the income with the employer. If your stepfather was self-employed (or had a W-2 *and* self-employement income), the IRS sometimes wants proof of the self-employment income and expenses and the amounts directly impact the amount of EIC and ACTC generated. While the IRS suggests that 2-3 weeks is possible for an efiled return, in reality the processing time can be 8+ weeks and they won't consider it delayed until after 12 weeks. If the return was pulled for examiniation, this adds another 2 months. At 12 weeks, if the return is not in exams, your stepfather can request help from the Taxpayer advocate if he is about to suffer economic hardship--but that means being able to send in proof of the hardship such as eviction papers. PS, asking to talk to a supervisor at the IRS is pointless. The supervisor manages the employees on the tollfree line and cannot intervene with a processing issue. The supervisors will pull up the recording of the call and listen to it, but may feel that if the assistor answered the call correctly there is no point in calling you back.
